What

Hops & Barley is all about finding beer you'll love. We ask you a few simple questions, and start building a profile of your palette. Recommendations are completely customized for you.

H&B works along dimensions like flavor profile, gravity, bitterness, region, style, brewery, and tasting notes to match you to beers you'll adore.

Comments

Got a 500 trying to log in w/openid.

I would drown in a vat of Allagash White:
http://www.allagash.com/white.htm
and that wasn’t in your data set, which bums out this judge.

I like the GUI elements, which are relatively consistent and remind me of a grubby bar of which I am quite fond; however, autocomplete search boxes probably aren’t the best solution for a wizard like this. Try a combination of autocomplete and browsing panels, perhaps?

I would also love to know more about the algorithm that you use to recommend beers. It sounds delicious. Who knew that beer and code would go together?

Awesome app!

@timm3h thanks for the feedback. We’re planning on improving the way new beers are selected when you click “have not tried” (so it finds more common beers/no repeats), and improving how things are handled when the beer you enter for step 2 isn’t found. Cheers!

I like the idea of recommending beers – as I’m always looking for new ones to try. But for someone like me, who hasn’t had a wide range of beers, I found myself spending a good 5 minutes clicking “have no tried” just for my initial ratings. It also did not recognize my choice for my Vat. Once all entered, there was no button or blurb telling me how to move forward to my recommendations.

Just some thoughts.
