Nice Idea. Need more interaction on the non-iphone side. Would love to see more pictures and data of it’s example use. Also, a better way to easily add business/restaurant names.

Looks like this could be awesome if it became used widely. Good idea!!

Failed to do ANYTING on my iPhone

Allez les gars je crois en vous !

super cool, i love it, but ehmm i dont know, keep working guys!

Looks really nice, and it’s unique that you built an iPhone app as well as your Rails app, however, I couldn’t install the app on my iPhone as directed.

Good job, I like the idea very much…

@pjammer : The iPhone part is essential and is not a native app but a web app using HTML5 geolocalisation and other HTML5 stuff.

No iPhone to test, good idea though.

how is this a rails app? if it’s the website then ok, it looks fine but does nothing really… and the iphone app wouldn’t be part of a rails rumble, where the real magic is, would it? i just must not get it.

It’s going to take a substantial user base to make this useful, but once (if) critical mass is reached it would be great for college towns, conference locations, vacation spots, and city life. The tour is was perfect and the simpleness of the UI is important for a mobile app. Once the data starts rolling in you may be able to predict hotspots based on the night of the week, etc. Good job!

I like the straightforward interface of the app. The tour surely makes it simple to understand how to used it. I really appreciate apps that have fully featured tours. I think the idea is pretty interesting and it has potential with enough adoption.

Really good job.

Thanks for your comment Ben.

The main difference in our service is that not only the data is geolocalised, but it also has a short lifespan. When a user claims a hotspot, this information is displayed only for twenty minutes. That way, users know which places is hip right now !

Let’s take an example. You are in a bar with friends and you want to move somewhere else, in a night club for example. HotSpots wil tell you which one is the most hip tonight !

We plan to interact with more social networks and give statistics over time of the hotness of a place. For example, which bar/city/country was the most hip yesterday/this week etc…

I was wondering if there were any iPhone sites this year – it’s always a risk, but I think you’ve done a pretty good job by using the iPhone primarily as an input device.

Design on the web is very nice, and on the phone it feels close to a native app; using the geolocation services in HTML5 is a nice touch, as well. I think a bit more explanation in the phone client is warranted, however – particularly around photos and tags.

In fact, that lack of instruction is why I’ve marked you down a bit on completeness. It seems like a well-thought-out app, but I’m unable to verify that all the functions work (and indeed, there aren’t any tags on the website, from anyone).

I’m not convinced this is particularly innovative, as a number of services exist that do similar things. I’d very much like to see an explanation of the features you offer and how they make HotSpots more useful than other, related applications.

The usefulness of the app is directly correlated to the number of people using it in a given region, so the potential audience is probably limited to people who live in urban settings (though I could see it becoming popular in college towns, as well).

All in all, it’s a solid effort. Good job!
